I have a rather large music library in MP3 format. When I attempt to read the files in to my library from my drive array, it takes forever, and I usually have to reboot the CuBox to wake it back up. The only way that I can play music is to browse through the files manually and not use a library. My CuBox has a high speed 32G card in it. Could this be a limitation?

From your other posts I assume you use a CuBox-I4. Does it lock up hard or is it still possible to telnet/ssh into it? I think I read somewhere that import of a large library can take two days or so, but I don’t know where the bottleneck is. As for the card: The maximum speed supported by a CuBox-i is class 10. UHS modes do not work due to a hardware restriction. I have seen problems with certain UHS-1 cards (Sony), but these usually result in complete lockup or not even booting at all.

I too am running Geexbox and have a large music and video library. I have a Utilite Pro which is roughly the same hardware as the cubox-i4 except that it has a 32 Gb SSD disk. I had Geexbox installation for a while on a 32 Gb SD card and it behaved just like you describe but all that instability went away when I installed Geexbox on the SSD -everything is very stable and my geexbox can run for months now. So try to move the OS to a drive connected to the SATA port -USB would probably also be too slow.

Well, one thing is that it looks like xbmc/kodi is using default parameters for their SQLite databases. This is most likely sub-optimal. I have added the sqlite3 command tool to geexbox. So once sqlite_3.8.8.3-2_armv7.opk becomes available, you can install it and try the following:

    systemctl stop xbmc
    cd ~/.xbmc/userdata/Database
    for f in *.db; do
       sqlite3 $f "pragma page_size=16384;vacuum;pragma journal_mode=wal"
    done
    systemctl start xbmc

No guarantee that this will help and probably it’s a good idea to make a backup of the *.db files (with xbmc not running) before doing this.
