    Hi all,

I’m really a Linux beginner, so don’t confuse my poor little head too much :-)
I’ve installed the latest dev build (because it has an installer) onto an old Dell 8400 with a old Soundblaster live in it.
The only Audio output devices listed in setup are -
Custom, hdmi (ALSA), iec958 (ALSA) and Defaults (ALSA).
I’ve tried selecting each of them and none work. The sound isn’t muted (i can control it through the volume controls on my keyboard so now I’m stuck.
How can I get the sound working?

OK, problem sorted now…or rather worked around.
I’ve taken out the audigy card and put in an old soundblaster live. This came to life as soon as it was booted.

ok so won’t fix, only if you are ready to enter command line in a shell :)

Oh I don’t mind digging around in the command line, I’ve done that with my minecraft server (it’s a linux system)…but only if the instructions are easy enough to follow cos I’m still dipping my toes into the great pool of Linux.
And besides this problem is sorted now with a different sound card.
