Used: latest-iso-devel.iso from 10-Dec-2011 08:36.
Output /tmp/debug-sound: http://pastebin.com/N9jNKyjH
Content /etc/audio: http://pastebin.com/9ta2mCJySeems that Xbmc has to different Audio devices cause in “Seeting/System/Audio Hardware” I have all the setting two times.
But on /proc/asound/cards I see only:
0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xfe600000 irq 52Any idea?

December 12, 2011 at 00:14 #2050Did you use persistent ? (see section documentation if it’s not the case)
cause here is something wrong here : (from your log)
Simple mixer control ‘IEC958′,0
Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum
Playback channels: Mono
Mono: Playback [off]December 12, 2011 at 16:06 #2060yes i did use persistent.
I created the boot stick with unetbootin which also created the casper-rw.
and it works, can boot and the settings are back again.i dont understand what you mean with “there is something wrong”, can you explain?
December 12, 2011 at 16:24 #2061Mono: Playback should be [on]
December 12, 2011 at 16:27 #2062Can you re-excute the script /usr/lib/alsa-utils/alsa-mixer-setup and repost the file /tmp/debug-sound ?
December 13, 2011 at 04:31 #2079ok, i will try it this evening and post the result here.
But anyhow, i also think, as mentioned above, that there might also be an issue with having all Sound Settings twice in XBMC:
http://www.geexbox.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/screenshot001.pngI do have the “block of settings” i.e. “Audio Output”, “Speaker Configuration”, “Audio Output Device”,… two times in the Audio Settings screen.
… which means for me that XBMC regocnizes two sound cards, or?
This might be because i think XBMC found the onboard Realtek device and the Intel HDMI Sound device. What do you think?
December 13, 2011 at 06:40 #2080no, i think it’s correct but not configured for your device
(no pc to see now, i will confirm this evening for your screenshot)

December 13, 2011 at 17:07 #2091I executed alsa-mixer-setup:
http://pastebin.com/kUWTp8G8BTW, the screenshot is from your webside, i just wanted to make clear what i was talking about.
December 14, 2011 at 00:49 #2092your new log :
Simple mixer control ‘IEC958′,0
Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum
Playback channels: Mono
Mono: Playback [on] < -- ok
Simple mixer control 'IEC958 Default PCM',0
Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum
Playback channels: Mono
Mono: Playback [on]
Simple mixer control 'IEC958',1
Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum
Playback channels: Mono
Mono: Playback [on] <--- oknow it should work
about screenshot, i forgot the dual output for audio (patch submitted after release): (disable the 2nd device and configure the first one to use hdmi
(you should have something like that, right ? http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=86038)December 14, 2011 at 10:32 #2101yes i have exactly this dual audio thing.
I disabled the second device already for testing -> no effectWhatever i do, i get no sound.
If i boot from the internal harddisk which contains win 7 with mediaportal it works very well with sound over hdmi, even with DTS-HD and Dolby True HD.
So it can’t be a hardware configuration issue.December 14, 2011 at 11:52 #2108ok, another problem with configuration …
install 3 packages (inside vt2, execute : opkg install -force-reinstall name_of_pkg )
bash, dialog, asa-utils located here : http://download.geexbox.org/releases/extra/i386/please, execute and post the result of :
aplay -lDecember 14, 2011 at 15:33 #2123ok, did it, but for bash i had to execute : opkg install -force-overwrite bash_4.1-1_i686.opk, cause /bin/bash was already in busybox.
Anyhow:
aplay says:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 7: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0Interesting …
December 14, 2011 at 16:00 #2127arf, i forgot for bash, but you found it
can you try to put a .wav somewhere an try :
aplay -D plughw:0,7 your.wav
i hope you hear a sound
December 14, 2011 at 16:09 #2128if it works : you can try two things :
1) put in file /etc/asound.conf :
pcm.!default {
type hw
card 0
device 7
}2) try this settings in xbmc :
Audio output:HDMI
Speaker coniguration 2.0
Audio output device Custom
Custom audio device: plughw:0,7Hope it will help you
edit : and i f it’s ok, i need the result of cmd “dmesg” to add your configuration to our script
