Tried the r14216.
This one start GeeXboX as it probably should be.
Internet connection working.
For some reason I can see my hard disks, but cannot access them anymore (lists are empty).
So I used DigitallyImported Addon for testing sound, but same results.
I went through each hdmi setting (‘hdmi (ALSA)’ to every numbered one, ’3′, ’7′, ’8′ and ’9′). 3, 8 and 9 give me the playback error / check device settings popup, hdmi and 3 don’t. Still no sound.
Then I tried changing /etc/audio part ‘analogic’ to ‘hdmi’, which results in GeeXboX not booting up anymore.

don’t know what you do exactly but changing /etc/audio shouldn’t break the boot process
there is already someone who need to change two values in /etc/audio, see this post :

Finally I can report success :) I thank you very much for your patience! The post by greg in the thread did the trick.

Screenshot audio settings

I went back to the 2.0 for now, though lacking some of the add-ons which work in the latest devel.

Don’t want to be a nuisance, but any idea why no files on the hard drives are listed in the latest devel..?

It was version r14216.

Haven’t tried the newest from last sunday.

Is there a way to keep certain general settings I made in previous versions, or do I always have to set everything up again?

just save /root/.xbmc then restore it
All your graphical settings will be restored
