Hello,
Is there a possibility to connect GeeXboX 3.0 via VPN?
If yes, how do I do the trick?
I connected already with WLAN (WPA) without any problems. Now I only need that VPN layer on top of that.
Thank you
Cheers

September 27, 2012 at 13:06 #4672not tested …
why do you want vpn ?
September 27, 2012 at 14:18 #4676Some services are restricted to a country.
For video, you have Hulu (USA catchup TV), BBC (UK) and many more.
For audio, you have Pandora (USA) and others.
So having a VPN located in the USA gives you access to USA limited services. A UK vpn gives you access to UK limited services etc…
Some people might also want to use download functions in XBMC and hide such trafic from their ISPs
I’ve also read that there are in the Netherlands, storage services for your media files you can access through a VPN. Since laws in the Netherlands are lighter regarding media files…
There are many other reasons I guess.
Hulu and hiding trafic being the two main reasons I read.
September 27, 2012 at 14:54 #4677Another example would be to want to connect a GeeXboX to a fileserver, which is only accessable via VPN due to security/firewall reasons. VPN is an essential element of network security ourdays.
IIRR an 1.x version of GeexBox supported an advanced netup configuration for this kind of stuff, or am I mistaking?
September 27, 2012 at 16:50 #4679So as far as I understand, currently GeexBox does not come with any VPN functionality whatsoever?
In this case I would like to express a feature request: Please implement openVPN (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenVPN) into GeexBox.
Until then, could you give me a brief introduction on how to install something manually onto GeexBox? Say I would download the sources of openVPN, how would I compile them for GeexBox (I assume that GeexBox comes without any building utilities such as ggc, make, etc. or not?). Or can I install readily-made packages of other distributions onto GeexBox, etc. Ubuntu-deb, openSUSE-rpm, etc.?
Thank you for any input/hint/advice/howto/help, etc.

October 19, 2012 at 15:13 #4978Heyho tomlohave,
I just wanted to go for some tests with the files that you provided, when I realized that these files are only availiable for i386. Since I have x64 installed, is it possible to provide those files in 64bit, too?
Thank you
